Why We’re Expanding Digitally Instead of Launching a Magazine

At Choose Clark County, one of our priorities is helping people stay connected—whether they live here, are visiting for the weekend, or are considering moving to our community. When we first looked at ways to make that happen, one idea was to create a printed community magazine that would share events, highlight local businesses, and celebrate life in Clark County.

Why We Didn’t Move Forward With Print

As exciting as the idea of a magazine was, several challenges quickly became clear:

  • Timeliness: A magazine comes out only a few times a year, but events and opportunities change weekly.

  • Cost: Print is expensive, and higher costs would mean fewer resources available for direct community impact.

  • Content Volume: Filling each issue on a tight timeline would be difficult, especially in smaller communities.

After talking with board members and community partners, we realized that while a magazine sounded nice, what people really wanted was something more accessible, more flexible, and more immediate.

Why Digital Makes More Sense

Nearly everyone today has a phone in their pocket. When someone is looking for “things to do in Clark County” or “events in Willow Lake,” they aren’t waiting for a magazine—they’re searching online. A strong digital presence lets us:

  • Be Found on Google: Making Clark County events and resources easy to search and discover.

  • Stay Current: Update information instantly when new opportunities or events arise.

  • Be Accessible: Ensure anyone—residents, visitors, or potential new families—can find what they need at any time.

What’s Next

We’re excited to focus our energy on building out the Clark County Events Page within our website. This will link to our communities so visitors can easily access even more local information.

Looking ahead, we’ll also be rolling out our “Google-Ability Plan,” which we’ll discuss at the Community Forum. This initiative will help local businesses strengthen their online presence, making it easier for travelers, visitors, and future residents to connect with them.

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t a step back—it’s a step forward. By investing in digital, we’re ensuring Clark County is visible in the places people are already looking. Whether you’re here for a day, a season, or a lifetime, we want it to be easy to discover everything our community has to offer.
